Susan Updike is a highly experienced Registered Nurse with a Juris Doctorate degree. She is dedicated to assisting plaintiff and defense attorneys, insurance carriers, governmental and corporate entities in the management of legal cases where health, illness, injury and medical billing are at issue.
Susan has expertise in providing a wide range of services including medical record analysis, medical/legal research, and preparation of chronologic summaries.  She understands complex medical issues and standards of care.  Ms. Updike screens cases and educates attorneys on medical malpractice issues and personal injury litigation, preparing opinion reports as indicated.

Her expertise involves more than straight medical review with summary. Susan offers complete litigation support and can provide valuable assistance in all phases of cases and litigation; from initial investigation through final adjudication. Cases are personally handled in an expeditious, professional manner, tailored to meet a client’s needs.  Susan has broad medical experience having worked in different areas of emergency medicine and medical-surgical nursing.  She has practiced in multiple hospitals in different areas of the country. Her background provides the necessary medical expertise to assist in a wide variety of cases, such as personal injury, medical malpractice and elder abuse. Susan has extensive litigation experience, having assisted attorneys in all stages of litigation, ranging from the drafting of interrogatories and deposition questions to preparing medical experts and exhibits for trial.

 

Susan also provides a concierge type approach to personal patient care.  This includes hands-on assistance with nursing care, providing a bridge into the complicated healthcare system. She has experience that runs across the board from critical care to hospice. Susan has advocated for patients and their families, explaining medical/nursing care and treatments. Susan can navigate and negotiate with medical insurance companies regarding billing issues. This saves time, money and helps utilize resources for better quality care.
